My name is Abby, and I'm a contemporary abstract artist living in Durham, NC.

Before I was an artist, I used to work in the tech support world for a big financial firm. The pace was brutal — on-call rotations where getting called in the middle of the night, and weekends was normal.

Around Thanksgiving of 2025, I experienced the worst burn out of my life. I could barely get out of bed. I knew right then and there that this lifestyle wasn't for me. It made me hate my life.

Painting is What Saved Me

I'd started painting during the pandemic. It was the perfect way to pass the time, and it quickly became a passion. For the first time in my life, I found something that I loved doing. And I couldn't imagine my life without it.

After I left my job, I needed something to anchor me. I felt like I was floating along aimlessly. That's where these paintings were born from. They grounded me, made me feel like leaving corporate America behind wasn't hopeless.

I could finally spend my time on what I loved, heal my soul, and actually work on my dream of full-time artist. I picked this rich, deep brown called "Raw Umber" as both a challenge for me, and as an anchor while my whole life was changing.
